Farmington Emblem Club meets

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Emblem Club had a potluck dinner prior to the meeting which was enjoyed by all. The citizen of the year was honored  and this year’s recipients were Brent and Bertha Smith.

Brent and Bertha are known for their work with special needs children. A major event each year since 1969 has been a special Christmas party for special needs children. There are 40-50 in attendance with a gift for each. Santa knows what each guest wants. The party consist of cookies, music, pinata, Christmas stories and a Santa Buffet Luncheon. Brent and Bertha’s nephew Scott was also a special guest.

Prior to the meeting Mike Cormier came in to speak about the expansion of Mt. Blue High School.
The regular meeting began after Mr. Cormier spoke; with the Flags of the United States being stationed; after which the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem were completed. There were 30 members present.
Nancy Chase gave a fantastic presentation about her bird’s eye view of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s funeral procession.
Many of the summer functions were reported on. Some of the things the Farmington Emblem Club members did were flag folding, parades, yard sales, cooking for the ill, working at the animal shelter, passed out drug awareness rulers and bracelets and picked turkeys for Farmington Fair.
Upcoming events will include National Convention, Farmington Fair, a Halloween Dance, basket raffle and a variety show.

  1. The honor for Brent & Bertha is well-deserved and long overdue. They have contributed their time and money for many years to countless people. Congratulations Brent & Bertha Erald & Sally Farmer
