FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to two deserving area residents, Amanda Richards and Jenna Hamlin, both of Strong. The scholarships are given based on community involvement, scholastic achievement and an essay.

The Chamber scholarships are among the few scholarships available to “non-traditional” students as well as graduating seniors. This year, however both scholarships went to seniors, both students graduated from Mt. Abram High School.

Amanda Richards plans to attend the University of Maine Orono and take part in the Honors Program. Jenna plans on obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Thomas College, Waterville. Both plan to use their education here in Franklin County.

In making the presentations, David Robie of the Chamber’s Scholarship Committee mentioned the recipients’ involvement in, and demonstrated commitment to, Franklin County. Both recipients are to be congratulated on their achievements.

The Chamber hosts an annual Scholarship Golf Tournament with Seth Wescott to raise funds for area students. This year’s tournament will be held on Sept. 28 at Sugarloaf’s world-class course with an after-party at The Rack.
