PHILLIPS – “It was a huge success,” according to Winona Davenport, who along with many volunteers organized the Penny Sale Auction benefiting the Phillips Public Library.

Final ticket winners were drawn on Sunday with a good crowd in attendance. The sum of $6,000-plus was raised from the auction, clothing and yard sale. Assisting Mrs. Davenport with the ticket drawing were state Sen. Tom Saviello, John Richard, Cindy Morgan, Moon Hwang, Sylvia Lambert and state Rep. Russell Black.

Anne Schattschneider and Nancy Morgan tended the merchandise room. Pam Matthews attended the food table. Many volunteers helped lug the winnings to their cars. Thank you, Friends of the Library. Please direct your questions or if you need pick up for items for next years auction to Winona at 639-4296. Items may be donated at any time.

  1. A penny sale at this library is people have donated merchandise or gift certificates to the library and are on display. U can go in and buy tickets for 1.00 a sheet of 25 I believe. U go around and put your tickets in an envelope corresponding to the item you wish to win and if your ticket is drawn u win. It is so fun and there are a lot of very nice items. Its the same thing as a chinese auction..
