FARMINGTON – Franklin Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that Taffy Davis, RN-BC, BSN, clinical instructor, and Karen Rogers, RN-BC, MSN, director of education, recently became board-certified in Nursing Professional Development (NPD) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To become certified, each successfully passed a 175-question comprehensive computer-based examination.
According to the ANCC, nursing professional development is critical to a nurse’s lifelong learning and allows she or he to develop, maintain, and expand competence in professional nursing practice. As a practice specialty, it facilitates lifelong continuing education activities for the individual and plays a key role in staff development. The NPD specialist employs and engages a broad range of in-depth knowledge and skills in education theory and application, career development, leadership, and program management. Key roles in nursing professional development include: consultant, facilitator, change agent, educator, leader and researcher.
Prerequisites to testing were that each: held a current, active RN license; held a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing; had a minimum of 4,000 hours of clinical practice in nursing professional development within the last five years; and completed 30 hours of continuing education in nursing professional development within the last three years.
“Taffy and Karen are the nurses who help educate all of our employees. Certification validates nursing specialty knowledge and builds their confidence as professionals, demonstrating that they meet nationally recognized standards in their specialty,” said Pam Ernest, chief nursing officer. “Moreover, it is a testimonial of their dedication to the nursing profession.”
The AANC is the largest and most prestigious nurse credentialing organization in the United States.
