FARMINGTON – Commissioners approved a promotion for a Franklin County Sheriff’s Department deputy at Tuesday’s meeting, elevating him to the rank of corporal.

Kenneth Charles, currently a deputy, has been with the sheriff’s department for more than seven years, having been hired in November 2002. According to Sheriff Dennis Pike, Charles was among three qualified candidates for the shift supervisor’s position, which carries with it the rank of corporal.

In other business, commissioners approved the filling of a part-time temporary position in the District Attorney’s Office, which will exist until the end of the fiscal year. Commissioners approved the hiring of Joanne Pineau, of Jay, to work in a secretarial capacity within that office.

Funding for the position will be found in the District Attorney Office’s budget. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson had previously told commissioners that he intends to ask for the part-time position to be made permanent during the budget process.

Commissioners also approved the hiring of Carla York, currently employed at the Franklin County Jail in a temporary, full-time capacity, as the utilities corrections officer at that facility.
