Arthur Leonard Ankers (1931-2009)

WILTON – Arthur Leonard Ankers, 78, of Wilton, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Friday, Sept.4, 2009.

He was born June 14, 1931 in Portland, the only child of Arthur R. and Ada (Hood) Ankers. He received his education in Turner schools and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict.

On June 15, 1951, he married Georgie Cochran in Wilton.

Leonard was employed at International Paper Co for 41 years and retired as a supervisor. He was a member of the Hosmer-Edwards American Legion Post of Wilton and the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 of Jay. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing Beano and enjoyed helping his wife with the pouring and firing of her ceramic work and in helping her to set-up at art shows and craft fairs. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his best friend and wife of 58 years, Georgie of Wilton; a son: Peter Ankers of Wilton; two grandsons: Achelas P. Ankers of Weld and Ashlan A. Ankers of Wilton; a special niece, Julie Stoddard of Addison. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela D. “Pammie”

Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. for memorial visitation. Public memorial services will be held at the conclusion of the informal gathering at 8 p.m. Public memorial graveside services with full military honors will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton.   1. Dear Georgie, I was very sad at hearing of Lenny’s passing. He was a good man and fun to talk to at bingo. He will be greatly missed by all. My heart and love goes out to you.
