FARMINGTON – Beulah E. Bean, 96, of Stratton, widow of Olon J. Bean, passed away on Feb. 2, 2011 in Farmington at the Orchard Park Rehab and Living Center where she had been a patient for two and a half years.

Beulah was born in Kingfield on March 19, 1914, one of three children born to Glen C. Ellis and Gladys M. Hoyt Ellis. Her mother died in the flu epidemic and Beulah along with her younger brother and younger sister lived with their maternal grandparents in East New Portland where Beulah attended school for the early years of her life.

In the summers, the three children lived with their paternal grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Edwin Ellis in Kingfield. Later, Glen Ellis brought his family together to live with him next door to his parent’s home in Kingfield. Beulah then attended school in Kingfield.

On Dec. 15, 1928 she married Olon Bean of Industry in Kingfield and they lived in Industry where their son Vernon Glen Bean was born. Later, they moved to Dead River and built a home next to Olon’s father’s home. Their daughter Gladys M was born soon after and they lived in Dead River until their son was to attend high school. They moved to Flagstaff during the school years that their children were in high school and moved back to Dead River every summer. Unfortunately, the year that her daughter graduated from high school, the whole area was flooded out with what is now Flagstaff Lake.

Beulah and Olon moved to Stratton at the north end of the new lake and made their home there until Olon passed away in April of 1970. Beulah married J. Berube later and that marriage ended in a divorce. For over 25 years, Beulah worked as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in the offices of Stratton, Eustis and Kingfield.

She is survived by her beloved son Vernon and his wife Joan of Rangeley; her daughter, Gladys Waz of Bristol, CT; grandchildren, Vernon O. Bean, Glen Bean, Nathan Bean and Katherine Pietrowicz; eight great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Olon, her grandson Capt. Ricky Bean USAF, her sister Evelyn Abbott and her brother Raymond W. Ellis. The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Park for the excellent care while Beulah was there.

Funeral Services will be held at the Flagstaff Memorial Chapel later in the spring with internment at the Flagstaff Cemetery. There will be no visitation hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Ricky Bean Scholarship Memorial Fund, c/o Franklin Savings Bank, PO Box 650, Rangeley, ME 04970 or to the Flagstaff Memorial Chapel Association, PO Box 27, Eustis, ME 04936. 1. To The Family,

Very sorry for your loss. I just heard today of Beulah’s passing. She was a dear friend of my Grand-parents (Bill and Ethel Grenon). They are all together now with the Lord. May God comfort you all at this time but know she is living on the other side.
