FARMINGTON – Catherine “ Kay” Ann (Henderson) Cullenberg, 87, Holley Road, Farmington, Maine, died peacefully on Nov. 18, 2010.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1923, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of William F. And Margaret M. Henderson. The fifth of 10 children, she attended schools in Boston and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy. She met her husband, Roland B. Cullenberg, while he was serving in the United States Coast Guard during WW II.

They were married in 1945 and enjoyed 62 years of love and dedication to each other and to raising their 13 children. In 1953 they and their first six children moved from Brockton, Mass., to a working farm on the Holley Road where they lived until Roland’s death in 2008. Kay is best known to her family and friends as mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. Always loving, always smiling and always giving of herself to her family and to others, she never missed a beat and always knew what was needed. Her love and guidance will shine on for all of us who knew her.

In 1971 she was honored as Franklin County’s mother of the year. While raising her family she also worked for Franklin County Hospital and Androscoggin Home Health Agency. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church in Farmington, St. Joseph’s Alter Guild Society, and Franklin County Extension Service; she was a 4-H leader and she volunteered for MSAD 9.

Kay is survived by her sister Julie Devlin of Situate, Mass., her brother Anthony Henderson of Weymouth, Mass., and by her 13 children, 33 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: son, Ronald and his wife Sharon of Farmington and children, Eric, Gretchen and Rhonda and friend Robert Winters; daughter, Kathy Toister and her husband Robert of Redlands, Calif., and son Jeff and wife Sally; son, David and his wife Tina of Lyme, N.H., and sons Travis and Garrett (1983-1997); daughter, Peg Alsup and her husband Glen of Newton, N.H., and children Cara and husband Frank Longernecker and their children – Kaleigh and Quin, Cynthy and husband Jamie Yates and son Ryan, Andy and wife Kate and children – Lia and Drew, and Scott and fiancé Shelley Gumbs; daughter, Judy Stevens and her husband Graydon of Cape Elizabeth and their children, Shana and husband John Maldonado and their children Savannah and Lainey, Lauren and husband Brendan Hannigan and Grady and fiancé Stacy Kanter; daughter, Carol Cowie and her husband John of Glenburn and son Dylan Farnum and wife, Augusta and their children, Henry and Clementine; and Rory Cowie; daughter, Tina Venne of Portland and her children Erin Sullivan and her son Darian; Patrick Venne and wife Michelle Atienza and Molly Venne; son, Kevin and his wife Terry of Auburn and daughter Johanna; son, Mark and wife Becky of Wasilla, Alaska, and children Larissa and husband Steve and their daughters, Kyndra and Kylie, and Briana, Byron, and Myles; son, Dennis of Manchester, Maine; son, Arvid and his wife Kelley of Farmington and their three children Kelton, Addie, and Kahryn; daughter, Ann Roberts and her husband Charlie of Wilton and children Peter, Christine, Emily, Evan, Andrew, Charlie and Ryan; son, Carl of Falmouth and son Brody.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. At St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 133 Middle Street, Farmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at 11 a.m., also at St. Joseph’s with the Reverend Thomas Lequin officiating. Friends wishing, may make donations in Kay’s name to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 133 Middle Street, Farmington, ME 04938. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine.
