Glen L. Fitch (1923-2010)

NEW SHARON – Glen L. Fitch, 87, died Sept. 21, 2010 unexpectedly from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in New Sharon.

He was born June 5, 1923 in Orono, Maine, the son of Albert and Emma Leeson Fitch. He married Evelyn Perkins on March 7, 1948 in Massachusetts. She died Nov. 8, 1994. Glen was very civic minded and active in the town affairs of New Sharon.

He was ballot clerk for over 40 years. He served in the Fire Department as a volunteer for over 40 years where in the 1970s he and Robert Bruce did all the electrical, construction and maintenance for the firehouse addition. He also served on the school board for the old New Sharon school. He was a member of New Sharon Grange P of H 238 for over 70 years. He attended the New Sharon Congregational Church for many years.

Glen was a dairy farmer from the 1940s to the 1960s. He also plowed snow for Lester Brann in the 1950s. Glen drove school bus for many years for the New Sharon schools and later for MSAD 9 where he retired in 1985.

Glen and Evelyn enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and they traveled extensively with their Winnebago.

He is survived by: Lawrence and Joyce Perkins of Texas, Lloyd and Rosalie Perkins, Laura and Charlie Kenney, Leona and Dennis Carpentier, Glenda and Mark Raymond, all of Maine; 20 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a few great, great grandchildren.

Memorial visitation for friends and relatives will be held Saturday, Sept. 25th, 6 to 8 p.m., at the church vestry beside the New Sharon Congregational Church on Cape Cod Hill in New Sharon. Public funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept 26, at 2 p.m., at the New Sharon Congregational Church with Marcia Charles officiating.

A reception will be held following the service. Interment will be at the New Sharon Village Cemetery.
