MADRID TOWNSHIP – Leatrice J. Sargent, 83, of Madrid Township died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, surrounded by her loving brother Ray and sister-in-law Ruby Branum and close friends.

She was born in Lenna, Oklahoma on Aug. 27, 1927, the oldest child of Arthur and Florence Branum. She married Lloyd Sargent on Jan. 27, 1951 and was married for 50 years. Lloyd died on Oct 7, 2001.

Leatrice will be most remembered as a very sweet lady. She provided numerous meals and sweets for those in need and various community functions. She was an avid gardener and sewed for the Reeds Mill Ladies Circle for many years making quilts to support the Reeds Mill Church. She was a member of the Madrid Historical Society. She loved her cat, Toby, who is 15 years old and would jump up and lay with her.

Leatrice was a wonderful neighbor and friend who was loved by many who would do anything for her.

She is survived by; her younger brothers, Ray and wife Ruby Branum of Mt. Holly, N.C. and Herb and wife Terry of Morris, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews . She was predeceased by a brother, Art Branum.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Phillips Congregational Church, Main St., Phillips at 1 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sue Kaplan-Burgess and Rev. John Gensel officiating. Refreshments to follow at the Avon Town Community Building on Route 4 in Avon hosted by the Reeds Mill Sewing Circle.

Friends wishing may make donations to the Reeds Mill Sewing Circle, c/o Marie Bubier, Treasurer, 62 Pinkham Hill Rd, Phillips, ME 04966. Internment will be at the Dunham Cemetery in Madrid Township. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, ME.

  1. Leatrice was the sweetest person I knew. She always would help anyone in need. She is be missed terribly!
