JIM POND TWP – René Joseph Lecours, 71, of Jim Pond, died Tuesday afternoon, March 15, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Corcelle, Canada. He was the youngest son of Denis and Florida (Breton) Lecours. He worked for geologist, Raymond Marlo, at the age of 16, developing a love for rocks. Upon moving to Maine he worked as a lumberjack, carpenter, mason, and also worked the pulp drives. He worked for ITT for 10 years as a forester, later working for AA Brochu and IP Paper Co. He also worked for Sugarloaf Mountain Corp. for 20 years doing building maintenance.

In 1993, he attended Missoula Taxidermy School and received his taxidermy license. He worked as a taxidermist for 17 years, lovingly working to make the animals look as they did in real life. René became a U.S. Citizen on July 16, 1998.

René is survived by is wife of 49 years, Hildred, of Jim Pond Twp.;  children: Joanne Raymond and husband Craig of Lang Twp., Donald Lecours, also of Lang Twp., and Teena Taylor and her husband Rob, of England; five grandchildren: Angela, Jennifer, John, and Cindle Raymond, and Edward LaRochelle; 9 great- grandchildren; siblings: Olivette Morin, of Stratton, Marielle Morin of Bristol, Conn., Marcel Lecours, of Stratton, Dolores Charest of Quebec, Canada, and Edgar Lecours of Woburn, Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews.

His parents, Denis and Florida Lecours and his oldest brother Lucien Lecours predeceased him.

Funeral Mass to be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. At St. John’s Catholic Church, Stratton. Reception to follow at the Stratton Community Building.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.

  2. Hildred and family, Being a cancer survivor of non hodgkins lymphoma, I wish Rene’ could have been as fortunate. The man up above must have had his say. And did not want Rene’ to go on suffering. It is a royal battle, and very difficult on the family. Condolences to you all,and keep up your spirits. Thinking of you. Marilyn
