Letter to the Editor: AWAP’s funding request revisited

1 min read

I could not help but think what a missed opportunity by the supporters of the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project (AWAP) after reading the front page article in the Franklin Journal (05/29/09) concerning the petition brought forward to the Farmington town selectmen.

AWAP is a great organization and does wonderful work for our region, but so do many other groups.

If each of the 400 listed supporters of AWAP on this petition had shown their true support to this organization by giving $12.50 each, this organization would have their requested $5,000 funding and would not be forcing the town to hold an expensive special town meeting.

There are many great organizations that benefit our region not receiving town tax dollars and taxpayers should be free to choose which non-profit they support, not be forced to do so.

Sincerely,
