Letter to the Editor: Fortunate to have Faunce running

2 mins read

Since I moved back to Maine in 1997, my interest in Maine politics has been minimal. I was happy with the “Independent” Tom Saviello who had visited me when running for election. I knew that Janet Mills was there in Augusta to render her good sense. However, this year with the Republican and Tea Party running amok I am taking a hard look at who will represent us in the House.

Russell Black is an old friend of mine and I appreciate him as a family man, farmer and Wilton selectman. But I doubt that he has the experience or knowledge of the issues that really matter in Maine and the fact that he did not face his opponent in the Oct. 6 debate says a lot.

Irv Faunce is no ideologue espousing the usual Democrat agenda. He is a pragmatist who looks for the best workable solution for whatever problem confronts him. His views are based on extensive experience in education, healthcare, government and the problems of poverty. He studies and listens and gives sober and well-thought out opinions.

He devoted most of the summer and early fall to going door-to-door, talking with citizens who he hopes to be his constituents. This commitment of time, in itself, speaks well for the energy and effort he can and will put into his job of representing us in Augusta. We are very fortunate to have such a candidate.

  1. Mr. Smith,
Rusell Black is just the man to go to Augusta to represent his District and its constitutents. He knows what the average person is facing and needs to survive. He has all the energy to devote to the position and be non biased. Sorry, you are wrong in this case.

  2. Knocking on doors is great, and Russell Black has done it, too. I think Irv Faunce does indeed espouse the usual Democrat agenda. We’ve given the Democrats 40 years in Augusta. Look at the condition of the state of Maine. Let’s say that’s enough. Vote for Russell Black.

  3. This is the part of politics that I dont like. It is one thing to take the time to write a letter of support for a candidate that you favor…..it’s another thing to degrade another candidate in the process. It shows the lack of respect that Mr. Faunces supporters have and the type of relationships that will effect the decisions made at the House. I will definately be voting for Russell Black!!!! Thank you Mr. Black for being the type of kind, compassionate and down to earth politician our district needs.
