Letter to the Editor: ‘Give Lance another term’

1 min read

I am writing to encourage voters to elect Lance Harvell. During the past years Lance has been very active in an effort to reduce taxes on lubricating oil, which are less for packaged products such as pails and cases of quarts. This lower tax for plastic containers resulted in the transition from bulk and drums to the less environmental friendly plastics, which get disposed of at landfills across Maine, and increase pollution.

Lance has also helped to address competition created by the University of Maine competing with free enterprise. The University is manufacturing products and providing services that free enterprise can not fairly compete with, as they have to pay corporate income taxes and property and equipment taxes, that the University of Maine does not have to pay.

As the Democrats have controlled the Legislature for the past 30-plus years, so has the economy of Maine been in decline. We are over taxed and over regulated. Running a successful, small business in the state is far more difficult, and less profitable that we can continue to tolerate. With Lance’s conservative views, he will help to change these conditions.

Voters, help give Lance another term. As an experienced legislator, his influence and hard work will be of value in these efforts.

Sincerely,
Don McIntire

  1. Mr. Independent….I read it. Thanks for encouraging me to do so.
    It reads:

Respect for the U.S. constitution, personal responsibility and accountability, peace and prosperity through strength, and limiting federal and state government power to only those functions they can administer better than the private sector can.

Republicans believe in less government, lower taxes and a responsible fiscal policy that is able to protect our neediest citizens, maintain the Maine quality of life and balances jobs and the economic growth with responsible environmental practices.
