  1. Poor Moose!!! All for another rack to hang on the wall as a trophy to collect dust and cobwebs. Hunting/hunters are the reason I have not seen a moose in the wild in all 13 years of living here in Maine, even when I have gone to so called great moose spotting locations.

  2. Whaa Whaa Whaa! i have lived in Maine and haven’t seen a moose. It has to be from the avid moose hunters that help regulate the moose population. Maybe if these Moose hunters didn’t hunt poor old Bullwinkle i would be able to see the over abundance of moose right on the side/middle of the road. Then again i am not sure i would fair to well if my Prius were to collide with one. Never mind the revenue created from the moose hunt both for wildlife research and for the local communities. POOR MOOSE AND IGNORANT ME

  3. Congratulations Nancy! That rack may go on her wall as a trophy but what about ALL that amazing meat that will go into the freezer and become delicious stew and chili and burger and steaks and roasts and the list goes on. A 790 pound moose will probably yield close to 500lbs of meat that will nourish many people. If it was just about “the rack”, then that would be a terrible waste and very sad.

  4. Congrats Nancy!! Nice moose. To Industry Rd Resident if you have lived in Maine 13 years and have not seen a moose you must not be looking in the right area!!!! And if you think people just shoot them to have a trophy you couldnt be any further from the truth!!! Some people depend upon a moose or a deer to feed their family instead of depending on the welfare system, more people should try to support themselves by hunting!!!!

  5. It’s not just another rack on the wall- most hunters in this area use the meat and share it- That is feeding a family for a good amount of time- potentially making it so that they can afford other necessities. It would be like having farm animals for food- only you don’t have to pay to feed it all year.

  6. Haha love to see all the Poor moose stories. Its a hobby and has been a way of life for years Congrats Nancy on your trophy my brother who will be turning 18 shortly just shot his first one Monday 682 pounds ( good eatin’). One of the greatest experience that some hunters dreams of and it definitely creates memories that you will never forget. Congrats again for the hard work.

  7. A true hunter goes out in the woods and scouts for a moose. Mom for your frist moose you did awsome. For those people who don’t know you I will fill them in. First of all it’s not about the size, Second if you want to see a moose then your going to have to get off your coach and go out in the wild to seeamoose, Third not sure if you now where your meat comes from like your steak or your chicken or your unknown meat with pink slime but theydo kill them before the meat get to your fridge. At least my mom provided meat for her family this year and it’s ALL ORGANIC and she knows where it came from. So Congratulation to you mom. Be PROUD of all your hard work this summer. love ya .

  8. Good Hunt Nancy, I almost hit one the other day driving to Weld. Proud of you for being able to feed your family.

  9. @Industry Road resident

You gotta be kidding! There are moose all over this area, if you haven’t seen one you are either housebound or blind.
Congrats Nancy, that’s a nice one!
I’ve got about a month left before last year’s moose and venison are gone and then it’s back to beef until I can get another. Moose meat makes the best stew and hamburg of anything!

  10. Hunting was how I was brought up and 50 years later still is the way of life you walk to your freezer to get your food I have never had a recall for slime in my burgers

  11. Industry Road Resident- Are you kidding?? Maybe you should get out of Industry once in a while. A couple of years ago while home on vacation I took my wife to Sugarloaf, (it was her first time in Maine) and then we drove to Rangeley. On the way I told her that we had a pretty good chance to see a Moose. Sure as a sh$@t, whithin about ten minutes of me saying that and within a few miles of each other, we saw two. Soooo, not sure what you are talking about.

  12. Nancy, Congratulations on a successful hunt…@ Industry Road Resident…Once again you provide us with a negative comment while hiding behind your pen name…If you would like to see a moose, spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors of Franklin County…

  13. You did an awesome job mom and I am very proud of you. I know you have waited a long time to be given your opportunity to get one. All of your hard work and dedication paid off. Good job.

To Industry Road resident, just because you see a sign on the side of the road that says “moose crossing,” doesn’t mean it’s a “so called great moose spotting location.” You can find several moose throughout the state of Maine. According to the state wildlife biologists the moose population in Maine is at 76,000 with only 2,582 moose killed in 2011. Maine averages over 600 moose vehicle crashes a year over the past ten years. This is the reason that there is a Maine moose permit lottery, to help keep the population under control to prevent accidents, while at the same time to not eliminate the population of moose. Hence the moose is not on the endanger species lists.

Not all mounts are for trophy, but they are for memories of good times with family and friends, just like a picture on a wall will remind you of family and friends, which will also “collect dust and cobwebs”.

  14. Congrats Nancy! Great job! Please don’t let the ignorant people take away any pride you have in harvesting a wild animal. It’s allot of hard work and dedication and something you should be very proud of!! To see a moose or deer let alone shoot and tag one you have to use allot of your senses apparently the Industry resident even lacks the common one!!

  15. Nice moose Nancy!! Congratulations for being selected. I am still waiting for my number to get drawn. Has your heart rate slow to a normal beat. So excited for your success. No easy task these days to bag a trophy.

  16. Nice moose, can’t think of a better dust collector, every time you look at it you’ll be reminded of a great time with family and friends, and all the great meat it provided.

  17. CONGRATULATIONS NANCY!!!!!
Great job. It must have been a great experience having this moose coming at you and being able to get it down. Enjoy the meat and also your trophy rack. I’m sure this has been a momorable experience that you won’t forget. There are moose in Industry so I don’t know where this Industry Road resident has been all these 13 years. Congratulations again!!!!!!

  18. CONGRATULATIONS Nancy!!! Awesome response from your two children as well. My husband was very jealous!! Be proud and enjoy your moose!! We love it!
