BRUNSWICK – Good plate discipline and some timely hitting served the Mt. Blue High School varsity softball team well Wednesday, as the Cougars toppled the Dragons by a score of 19 to 5.

The Mt. Blue Cougars were on the receiving end of 16 walks by Brunswick pitching. Those free passes, plus 10 hits scattered throughout the 7-inning game locked down the school’s season-opening victory. Burke also had a RBI single in the 3rd inning and Moesha Harrtington had a RBI single in the 4th to plate Caitlin Kane, tying the game at 5 to 5 before the Cougars put the game away.

Kane got the win on the mound, pitching five innings while striking out seven Brunswick hitters and allowing two hits. Burke pitched a scoreless 6th.
